About Judith
Judith Cookis Rubens, formerly a Midwest-based arts critic, specializes in entertainment coverage, home/health/beauty/ lifestyle features, and personality profiles. Her work has appeared in dozens of newspapers, magazines and online publications including The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, AOL, Zink Magazine, Cat Fancy, Detroit’s Metro Parent Magazine and others.
As a freelancer, she’s done everything from interviewing Broadway performers and following the Rockettes on tour, to rounding up the best shopping and dining in metro Detroit. Expert with tight deadlines, source relationships, and clean copy, Judith also loves finding and sharing compelling human-interest stories.
Judith launched her journalism career covering city politics, crime and education for suburban Chicago newspapers The Daily Herald and Pioneer Press Newspapers.
She earned her journalism degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.
When she’s not writing, Judith keeps busy chasing after her twins, reading, going to the theater, or doing yoga and pilates. Judith now lives outside Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband and twin sons.
